Skiers from Home and Abroad Competing in Vasaloppet China
On January 4th, the 23rd Vasaloppet China Changchun Jingyuetan International Ski Festival officially opened, bringing together over 2,000 professional athletes and skiing enthusiasts from 33 countries and regions to Jilin, Changchun, to participate in this world-renowned cross-country skiing event.
After more than two hours of competition, Czech athlete Fabián Štoček won the men’s 50-kilometer race, with Swedish athlete Rolf Markus Hallėn Johansson taking second place and Italian athlete Lorenzo Busin placing third. In the women’s 50-kilometer race, Swedish athlete Malin Börjesjö won the championship, while Chinese athletes Li Lei and Chi Chunxue secured the silver and bronze medals respectively.
Vasaloppet China in Changchun: A Hallmark of Snow and Ice
Despite being thousands of miles away from Sweden in Europe, Changchun is in the northeast of China which is equally renowned for its ice and snow. People from both places share a deep passion for skiing which is an exhilarating sport.

The Vasaloppet has been established for more than a hundred year. In 2003, Vasaloppet China was officially created at the Changchun, Jilin. In 2014, Vasaloppet China Joined Worldloppet.
Over the past two decades, Vasaloppet China has continuously expanded in scale and influence, rising to the ranks of the world’s top-level professional events. It has attracted more than 1.15 million participants to engage in ice and snow sports and has been honored as a “”Quality Sports Tourism Event in China” and one of the “Top Ten Most Influential Ice and Snow Tourism Festivals in China.” Vasaloppet China has also evolved into an international celebration.
Foreign Skier Praised the Unique Event
“This year’s Vasaloppet China was organized very successfully. The organizers prepared everything well, and all ski enthusiasts could enjoy a comfortable competition environment,” said Epp Paal, CEO of the FIS Worldloppet.
Skiers Racing Through the forest Section
Epp Paal participated in the 50-kilometer women’s race at this year’s Vasaloppet China. After gliding for more than five hours, Epp Pal crossed the finish line, becoming one of the first “Global Skiers” of the 2025 Worldloppet.
The course for this year’s competition spans a total distance of 25 kilometers, with both the starting point and finish line located at Changchun Jingyuetan Snow World. The course encompasses various terrains including forest, lake, and road sections, and has been praised by the FIS as “the most beautiful cross-country skiing course in the world.” Epp Paal highly commended that every athlete can give their best performance here, and she said the atmosphere is unique and cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
Ice and Snow Boosting Changchun’s Economic
The Vasaloppet China is an epitome of Changchun’s efforts to tap into its ice and snow resources to invigorate its economy and continuously develop new forms of ice and snow tourism.
Zhao Xian, Deputy Mayor of Changchun, stated that this year’s Vasaloppet China coincides with the 28th Changchun Ice and Snow Festival, during which the scale and diversity of ice and snow-themed products in Changchun have reached an all-time high. Meanwhile, Changchun’s ice and snow activities are entering their peak season, with a series of events such as cultural tourism performances, educational tours, sports competitions, and trade fairs, as well as special performances, food markets, trendy interactive activities, and electronic music parties unfolding one after another.
The Vasaloppet China today is not only a sporting extravaganza but also a platform for cultural exchange and economic cooperation.
