On February 28th, local time, the “Shanxi Cultural Tourism (Hawaii) Symposium,” hosted by the Culture and Tourism Department of Shanxi Province, was held in Hawaii, USA.
Wang Aiqin, Director of the Culture and Tourism Department of Shanxi Province, stated that Shanxi boasts rich historical and cultural heritage as well as magnificent natural landscapes. She emphasized that tourism collaboration with Hawaii could offer a diverse travel experience for global visitors. Wang expressed her hope that the symposium would serve as an opportunity to foster closer cooperation between the tourism industries of the two regions. Dennis Suo, Managing Director of Hawaii Tourism China at Hawaii Tourism Authority, welcomed the Shanxi delegation and highlighted the natural complementarity between the two regions in terms of ecotourism and historical-cultural resources. He believes that their collaboration will achieve mutual benefits and drive the prosperous development of the cultural and tourism industries in both areas. Suo looks forward to strengthening exchanges and cooperation through joint promotions, festival interactions, and other initiatives, aiming to create cross-cultural premium travel routes and provide more convenient and comfortable tourism services for visitors.
On-site, multiple culture and tourism enterprises signed several cooperation agreements. Among them, Datong Culture and Tourism Investment Group will collaborate with the US Hawaii Fujian United Association to develop culture and tourism projects and jointly build a cultural tourism brand. Yangcheng County Cultural and Tourism Investment Group has reached a strategic cooperation agreement with the Hawaii Chaozhou Chamber of Commerce for the protection and revitalization of cultural heritage. Shanxi Baohua International Travel Agency signed a tourist exchange agreement with Hawaii Huaxia Travel Agency to jointly expand the two-way market.
The symposium was attended by Zhai Yongqing, Member of the Standing Committee of the Datong Municipal Committee and Deputy Mayor; Li Yongqiang, Deputy Mayor of Taiyuan City; Gao Xiquan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Jincheng Municipal Committee and Secretary of the Yangcheng County Party Committee; Jadie Goo, Director of the International Market Department of the Hawaii Tourism Authority; Josh Peters, Director of Hawaii Cultural Tourism Co., Ltd.; as well as representatives from tourism enterprises of both regions.
After the symposium, the attendees participated in the “Nihao! China”— The China Ice and Snow Tourism Overseas Promotion Season in the USA. It is reported that the event was jointly organized by the China National Tourist Office, Los Angeles, the Network of International Culturalink Entities (NICE), the Culture and Tourism Department of Shanxi Province, and other units.
Exquisite cultural and creative products, noodle performances, and intangible cultural heritage… At the event, the Shanxi intangible cultural heritage and cultural creative products booth was filled with a variety of exquisite exhibits. In the intangible cultural heritage interactive area, Shanxi noodle performances, paper-cutting experiences, and polished lacquerware displays attracted enthusiastic participation from many American friends. During the formal event segment, the Shanxi cultural tourism promotion officer gave a captivating presentation on Shanxi’s ice and snow-themed cultural tourism resources. Wang Zhanglong, a Shanxi intangible cultural heritage inheritor, demonstrated his superb skills in hand-pulled noodles, stretched noodles, knife-shaved noodles, and blowing noodle balloons on-site, winning rounds of applause from the audience.
This series of Shanxi cultural tourism (Hawaii) activities not only deepened the cultural and tourism exchanges between Shanxi and Hawaii but also injected new vitality into the prosperous development of the cultural and tourism industries in both regions.
