Steeping Together: National Afternoon Tea Month Promotes Civility and Connection Across America
“Steeping Together: Civility, Connection, and Community Over Afternoon Tea” Encourages Global Participation in a new holiday.

Janet Walsh, a fourth-generation Teavangelist and the founder of National Afternoon Tea Month, has announced the global launch of the April 2025 initiative titled “Steeping Together: Civility, Connection, and Community Over Afternoon Tea.” The event aims to inspire and certify 100,000 individuals worldwide to host tea gatherings, promoting deeper connections and civil discourse through the timeless tradition of afternoon tea.

With extensive experience hosting more than 2,000 tea parties, Walsh recognizes afternoon tea as a uniquely powerful tool for building community and combating isolation. “Tea gatherings provide a structured yet relaxed environment,” Walsh notes, “allowing people to truly engage with one another and foster meaningful dialogue. It’s about creating a space where individuals feel heard, respected, and genuinely connected.”

Recent studies in social psychology confirm the significant benefits of structured social activities like afternoon tea, including stress reduction, improved emotional well-being, and strengthened interpersonal relationships. These gatherings not only help bridge generational gaps but also provide opportunities to overcome cultural barriers.

Throughout April, individuals, community groups, businesses, and organizations globally are encouraged to host their own tea gatherings, whether intimate family teas or larger community events. Resources, including professional training, certification programs, hosting guides, recipes, and conversation-starter kits, will be available online, facilitating easy and accessible participation for hosts of all levels.

“Hosting a tea gathering doesn’t need to be complex or overly formal,” Walsh remarked. “The power lies in the intentional act of coming together, sharing tea, and engaging in genuine conversations. Our goal is simple. We want to empower 100,000 new tea hosts who can cultivate civility, community spirit, and connection across diverse settings worldwide.”

Participants can register their events or access resources at afternoonteamonth.com. Virtual training sessions and interactive workshops will also be offered, equipping hosts with skills to organize impactful tea experiences within their communities.
