EMS is a Brazilian-Italian songwriter and pop artist whose music blends deep, personal storytelling with contemporary and orchestral elements. Born in Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil, he is the son of Amelia Baroni and José Matos dos Santos. His life, shaped by love, loss, and resilience, has become the foundation of his debut album, “Ecliptic”—a project that transforms personal experiences into music that connects with listeners on a profound level.
From Brazil to Italy and the UK: Finding Healing in Music
From an early age, EMS found comfort in writing poems and songs, using them as a way to express emotions he couldn’t put into words. However, his life took a heartbreaking turn after the tragic loss of his girlfriend in a car accident.
Overwhelmed by grief and undergoing intensive therapy, EMS made a life-changing decision—he moved to Milan, Italy, seeking a new environment where he could distance himself from painful memories. Determined to move forward without relying on prescription medication, he turned to music as both an emotional escape and a source of self-discovery.
Milan, close to Ostiglia, the birthplace of his great-grandparents, became a temporary refuge. He found solace in quiet train rides between Milan, Lake Garda, and Ostiglia, moments that allowed him to reflect, heal, and write. It was during one of these deeply introspective moments that “Beyond the Horizon” was born.
After spending time in Italy, EMS eventually moved to London, UK, where he has now lived for fourteen years. Throughout his journey of personal change and reinvention, music has remained his anchor. The lyrics and melodies he carefully wrote in his notebooks over the years have become the heart of “Ecliptic”, an album that delves into themes of love, vulnerability, and the complexities of human emotion.
“Beyond the Horizon”: A Song of Hope and Self-Discovery
One of the standout tracks on Ecliptic, “Beyond the Horizon” represents EMS’s journey of courage, self-reflection, and the pursuit of hope. Unlike some of the album’s more melancholic songs, this track captures the moment when darkness begins to lift, offering a sense of optimism and emotional strength.

Two songs from Ecliptic —”Under Your Gaze” and “Endless Surge”—have advanced to the semi-finals of the prestigious International Songwriting Competition (ISC) 2024. Given that only about 15% of global submissions reach this stage, this is a remarkable milestone in EMS’s career.
The ISC 2024 finalists are expected to be announced between April and May 2025, with anticipation building for EMS’s continued success on the global music scene.
