On March 10 at the UN Headquarters, the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) commenced, addressing three key issues: Empowering Women Economically in the Digital Era, Innovative Approaches to Combat Gender-Based Violence, and Protecting Women’s Rights in Global Health Policy.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres, in his opening remarks, underscored gender equality as a key driver of global progress. He called on nations to accelerate efforts toward gender parity, emphasizing that women’s empowerment is fundamental to fostering global prosperity and peace.
Marking the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action—a landmark commitment to advancing women’s rights —Guterres reviewed the progress over the past three decades. However, he also highlighted persistent challenges, including gender-based violence, economic inequality, discrimination, and emerging threats in the digital era. The Secretary-General detailed the UN’s initiatives to advance women’s access to education, employment, and protection from violence, while announcing a new global call to action for gender equality—a movement to fulfill the vision set forth in the Beijing Declaration.
Among the distinguished speakers at the conference, Danny Xiang, Founder and CEO of Saint Bella Group, Asia’s leading postpartum care provider, spoke on behalf of Chinese businesses at the conference. He urged the integration of Asia’s postpartum care best practices into existing global healthcare systems, advocating for a standardized, culturally adaptable postpartum care framework to improve maternal and infant health worldwide.
Citing data, Xiang pointed out that more than 70% of new mothers globally face postpartum health challenges, yet policy coverage, economic support, and public awareness remain insufficient.
“It is my beliefthat proper postpartum care should be an essential part ofglobal healthcare systems,” Xiang stated. “This is not just about safeguarding maternal and infant health; it is about strengthening family well-being and enhancing overall socioeconomic efficiency.”
Having spent nearly a decade advocating for gender equality and maternal health, Xiang emphasized the urgent need for a globally standardized postpartum care support system built on three pillars: physical recovery, psychological support, and economic policy support.
Saint Bella Group, rooted in the traditional Chinese postpartum care practice of “zuo yuezi” (sitting the month), has tailored its services to meet the diverse needs of women across different social groups.
Based on publicly available information, as of 30 June 2024, Saint Bella Group was operating 72 postpartum care centers across 25 cities worldwide. Beyond its rapid expansion in China, the company has launched its global footprint in the United States and Singapore, with plans to continue expanding actively to enter into new markets. The company offers a comprehensive ecosystem spanning maternal and infant care services, home care services and health food products, striving to establish a well-rounded family care system in the future, from pregnancy and postpartum recovery to early childhood development and elderly care, in order to meet the evolving needs of families globally.
During his speech, Xiang called on governments to implement stronger maternal support policies, integrate postpartum care into national healthcare systems, and establish dedicated financial subsidies to support new mothers. He also urged corporations to create family-friendly workplaces that help working mothers balance career and well-being. Furthermore, he encouraged medical institutions to adopt globally validated postpartum care models to enhance maternal health services.
With artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly reshaping global healthcare, Xiang revealed that Saint Bella Group is developing an AI-powered “24-hour Digital Postpartum Care Assistant” to deliver cutting-edge, real-time support to mothers.
“Our goal is to make high-quality postpartum care universally accessible and, ultimately, free, helping women in underserved regions receive the same level of care as those in developed economies,” Xiang said. “This is critical to achieving sustainable development within a shared global future.”
Saint Bella Group’s pioneering efforts in women’s health and sustainable maternal care have earned widespread international recognition. The Global Alliance for Sustainable Development Foundation honored Xiang with the “Outstanding Global Sustainable Development Figure Award,” while the company received the title of “Eastern Postpartum Culture Award for Global Sustainable Development.”
