Douglasville, Georgia – Dienesia Paynes, a survivor of the foster care system who endured abuse and neglect during her childhood, has emerged as a powerful advocate for systemic reform. Drawing from her firsthand experiences, Paynes is launching a comprehensive initiative to raise awareness about the challenges faced by foster youth, including an upcoming book detailing her journey of resilience and healing.
Paynes’ experiences in foster care included placement in McLaren Hall and suffering abuse from foster family members. Despite these traumatic circumstances, she discovered moments of strength through supportive individuals like Karen and through her own inner resilience that allowed her to persevere.
Her advocacy platform addresses several critical issues within the foster care system:
The emotional and physical toll of abuse in foster care placements
Feelings of abandonment, fear, and hopelessness experienced by many foster youth
The systemic failures that leave children vulnerable to further harm
The importance of therapy and consistent healing practices for trauma survivors
How childhood trauma impacts parenting and strategies to break the cycle
In addition to her advocacy work, Paynes has founded the I Love You Foundation, which provides support and resources to current and former foster youth. The foundation focuses on creating positive change through community outreach, partnerships with key organizations, and direct assistance to those in need.
Paynes’ upcoming book, scheduled for release, will share her personal narrative and provide insights into resilience and healing for trauma survivors. The release is expected to coincide with Foster Care Awareness Month in May.
The target audience for Paynes’ work includes current and former foster youth, survivors of abuse and trauma, advocates for foster care reform, parents, social workers, therapists, and those involved in the child welfare system. Her content will also appeal to the general public interested in stories of resilience and systemic change.
Through her personal experiences and advocacy, Paynes aims to inspire others to get involved in creating positive change within the foster care system while providing healing resources for those who have experienced similar struggles.
