Clinical social worker and chaplain Chaya Lerner is excited to announce the publication of her new book, Torah of Trauma. The very power and insight in Lerner’s work vividly bridge the gap between the ancient Jewish teachings of Torah and the contemporary world filled with issues.
About the book:
In Torah of Trauma, Lerner offers a fresh perspective on healing by connecting the timeless wisdom of Jewish texts with the contemporary issues of trauma, grief, addiction, family dysfunction, and sibling rivalry. Drawing upon her vast study of the Torah, Hasidic literature, mystical texts, and contemporary commentary, she undertakes an in-depth exploration of how the ancient Jewish tradition teaches and heals amidst life’s struggles. The author’s 34 personal stories and teaching from the lives of Prophets and Torah figures give a penetrating view of how relevant the messages of the Torah are in healing the traumas and grief of today as they were ages ago.
Another hallmark of the book is the inclusion of original illustrations that aim to convey a clearer picture of fundamental concepts with the hope of attracting readers in new ways. This integration of art and wisdom forms the perfect complement to Lerner’s writing, allowing the text to remain fascinating while also accessible to all.
“I do believe there is great transformational power within the Torah, and I am anxious to share this gift with those who are looking for some healing and clarity in their own lives,” Lerner says. “In tracing the troubles encountered by our ancestors, I hope readers may find comfort, strength, and practical guidance to help them deal with their trauma and grief.”
The Torah of Trauma does not just elaborate the theory; it is a call to discover the healing within the ancient wisdom of Judaism. As it opens up the possibility to see trauma as a pathway to greater understanding and transformation, it invites readers to find strength from ancient teachings for the healing of modern times.
