California – 28th February, 2025 – Now out is Ronald Kendrick’s eagerly awaited memoir, Captive Spirit, offering a personal and dramatic insight into his decades-long work as a prison service member. This strong and honest reflection upon the experiences within one of the most controlled sectors of society uncovers the challenges, complexities, and human dynamics of working within the prison system.
About the Book:
Captive Spirit traces Kendrick’s journey through his years in the prison service, where he explains his personal encounters and emotional toll when dealing with inmates, together with the lessons learned during his time working within the walls of correctional facilities. There is an unprecedented and honest perspective from Kendrick’s viewpoint, revealing raw realities often hidden from the public eye.
This memoir makes it unique with its long and tiresome writing process. Kendrick has tried to write his story for the last fifty years, but only now is he feeling confident enough to let people hear about his experiences. With each incident, finding inspiration and newfound confidence enabled him to begin once again with his pen, determined that others should understand his perspective on the personal growth such a demanding career brought.
After leaving the prison service, Kendrick began to work as a self-employed carpenter, eventually becoming a very successful one. With his skills in house building, particularly in installing kitchens and doing home improvements, he learned every aspect of construction from scratch while keeping his passion for craftsmanship alive. Currently, in retirement, Kendrick has the opportunity to pursue other activities, including Captive Spirit’s release.
Captive Spirit is much more than just a memoir-it’s an expedition into the power of the human spirit, personal growth lessons, and insights into the workings of the prison system.
