– Governor Kim Signs Agreement with Redlands Christian School – Foreign Educational Institution to be Established in Solar City, Expanding Global Education Infrastructure

REDLANDS, CA – February 28, 2025 – Jeollanam-do Province, South Korea, has signed an agreement with Redlands Christian School (RCS), a prestigious U.S. private school, to establish a foreign educational institution in Solar City, Haenam. The initiative is expected to enhance global education infrastructure and attract international investment.

During his U.S. visit, Governor Kim Yung-rok attended the signing ceremony at the Media Center of Redlands Christian School in California, alongside:

  • Myung Hyun-kwan, Mayor of Haenam County
  • Koh Hyung-kwon, Vice Chairman of BS Group
  • Chris Winters, Headmaster of Redlands Christian School
  • Daniel Cole, Korea-U.S. Representative

The agreement formalizes mutual cooperation in the establishment and operation of the foreign educational institution, aiming to create an international learning environment within Jeollanam-do.

A Legacy of Academic Excellence

Founded in 1921, Redlands Christian School has built a century-long legacy of academic excellence, offering a STEM-focused (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) curriculum that prepares students for success at top-tier universities, including Ivy League institutions.

The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) with an A-level certification, recognizing its high-quality education programs, outstanding faculty, and advanced learning environments.

Key Highlights of the Agreement

Under the agreement:

  • Jeollanam-do, Haenam County, and Southwest Coastal Enterprise City Development Co. will provide administrative and financial support for the institution’s establishment and operation, in compliance with legal regulations.
  • Redlands Christian School will oversee student recruitment, faculty selection, and curriculum development, ensuring the institution meets global academic standards.

Governor Kim Yung-rok emphasized the significance of the agreement, stating:

“This partnership lays the foundation for an international education infrastructure in Jeollanam-do, which will not only enhance the region’s attractiveness to foreign investors but also accelerate the development of Solar City as a global business and education hub.
