2025 China Shanxi Cultural Tourism (Sydney) Symposium Successfully Held,Jointly Painting a New Blueprint for Cultural Tourism Cooperation

On February 26th, the “2025 China Shanxi Cultural Tourism (Sydney) Symposium,” hosted by the Shanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, was grandly held in Sydney, Australia. A delegation from the Shanxi Provincial Cultural Tourism Visit and local cultural tourism elites, political and business leaders from Australia gathered to engage in extensive and in-depth discussions on new opportunities and challenges for cultural tourism cooperation between the two places. In her opening speech, Wang Aiqin, Director of the Culture and Tourism Department of Shanxi Province, expressed her sincere gratitude to all participants and introduced the profound historical and cultural heritage and unique natural resources of Shanxi. She emphasized that as an important cradle of Chinese civilization, Shanxi boasts splendid world cultural heritages such as Mount Wutai, Yungang Grottoes, and Pingyao Ancient City, as well as numerous ancient architectures, intangible cultural heritages, and natural landscapes. Currently, Shanxi is actively committed to the transformation and development of the cultural tourism industry, and looks forward to conducting in-depth cooperation with Australia in various fields such as cultural tourism resource development, market promotion, and talent cultivation, to jointly create a mutually beneficial and win-win future.

Benjamin Cai, Deputy Mayor of the City of Strathfield in Australia, sang high praise for the enormous development potential of Shanxi’s cultural tourism industry in his speech and expressed the deep expectations of the Australian cultural tourism industry for cooperation with China. He mentioned, “Shanxi and Australia have strong complementarities in cultural experiences, ecotourism, study tours, and other fields. We hope to take this symposium as an opportunity to establish a normalized exchange mechanism and promote collaborative innovation and development in the cultural tourism industries of the two places.”

Resource Promotion and Project Signing, Taking a New Step in Cooperation

During the exchange session, the Shanxi cultural tourism delegation presented the unique tourism resources of Taiyuan City, Datong City, Yangcheng County in Jincheng City, and other places. They highlighted the new business forms of cultural tourism integration in the ancient city of Datong, the development of the historical and cultural IP of Yangcheng’s Imperial City, and the international development strategy for Shanxi’s three major cultural tourism sectors of “Yellow River, Great Wall, and Taihang Mountains.” Representatives from Sydney shared Australia’s valuable experiences in ecotourism, festival planning, and digital cultural tourism.

After the symposium, participants jointly participated in the “China Shanxi Cultural Tourism (Sydney) Ground Promotion Activity” and the “Hello, China” – 2025 China Ice and Snow Tourism Overseas Promotion Season Australia Special Event. Nearly a hundred guests, including Wang Yu, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney , Zhang Weiguo, Director of the Network of International Culturalink Entities, and Dean Long, CEO of the Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA), attended the event. Through rich and varied forms such as intangible cultural heritage performances, VR immersive experiences, and ice and snow-themed video exhibitions, they vividly showcased the unique charm of Shanxi’s cultural tourism resources to the Australian public.
