The 2025 Kumar Patel Prize in Laser Surgery Awarded to Drs. Robert Levine and Ray Arza

The American Laser Study Club (ALSC) is proud to announce the recipients of the prestigious 2025 Kumar Patel Prize in Laser Surgery. This accolade is bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated exceptional proficiency in laser surgery and made significant contributions as educators in the field.

The 2025 award winners are:

  • Robert Levine, DDS, is recognized for his outstanding contributions to CO2 laser dentistry education.
  • Ray Arza, DVM, is recognized for his outstanding contributions to veterinary CO2 laser surgery education.

The award ceremony will take place during the American Laser Study Club’s Annual Symposia in Clearwater Beach, FL. This year features two events: the Breathe and Thrive Symposium (January 31 – February 2, 2025) and the Veterinary Laser Surgery Symposium (May 16-17, 2025). About the Award Winners

Robert Levine, DDS

Dr. Levine, President of GLOH and Levine Consulting LLC, has been a leader in dentistry since 1973 after graduating from New York University. He completed a residency at Brooklyn VA Hospital (1973–1975) and served as a consultant until 1985. With over 20 years of laser dentistry experience, Dr. Levine co-developed the first accredited laser curriculum in a U.S. dental school. Currently, he is the Director of Laser Dentistry at A.T. Still University Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health (ASDOH), where he provides hands-on training, leads laser research, and advances special care dentistry through laser applications. He is passionate about broadening access to laser education through affordable online programs.

Ray Arza, DVM

Dr. Arza earned his DVM from the University of Tennessee in 1979 and spent 23 years as a small animal practitioner specializing in surgery and dentistry. He began using surgical lasers in 1998 and soon became a sought-after lecturer on CO2 laser surgery. In 2002, he transitioned from private practice to industry roles, focusing on education, training, and consultancy for surgical lasers. Currently, as a Medical Director and Co-Director of Sales at the VetScalpel division of LightScalpel, Inc., Dr. Arza is further advancing both surgical protocols and educational programs to best train veterinarians world-over to maximize the many benefits and values of laser surgery for veterinary patients.

About the Kumar Patel Prize in Laser Surgery

Established in 2018 by the American Laser Study Club, the Kumar Patel Prize in Laser Surgery honors individuals who have substantially contributed to laser surgery through research, education, or clinical practice. The prize, named after Dr. Kumar Patel, the inventor of the CO2 laser, is awarded annually at the ALSC Annual Symposia.
