Results included a metabolic equivalent increase of 24%, step count increase of 97%, and blood pressure reduction of 76% over controls.

October 22, 2024 – San Diego, CA – Kura Care, a leading provider of AI-driven Patient Engagement Solutions for hospitals, clinics, and remote patient monitoring and chronic care management companies, today announced the results of a 15-month clinical study for cardiac rehab patients. The study focused on Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) and heart surgery patients, with 43 individuals participating. Using Kura Care’s Patient Engagement Solutions, patients were able to significantly increase their metabolic equivalents (METs) by 24% while also increasing their step counts by 97% and reducing blood pressure by 76% compared to the control group in this critical patient population. Detailed study results will be presented at the American Heart Association conference in Chicago, IL on November 16th – 18th, 2024.

Evidence has already shown that increasing METs can significantly improve the mortality and hospitalization rate for CHF patients. Each 1 MET higher workload at the end of a cardiac rehabilitation (CR) program was associated with 42% and 38% risk reduction in all-cause mortality and HF hospitalization, respectively. Kura Care’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Ming-Tse Tsai, MD, added, “The results of our study demonstrate that increasing levels of patient engagement in specific contexts can have a direct positive effect on constructive behaviors in these patients, which was reflected in their blood pressure reduction and METs improvement. A missing element in many remote monitoring programs geared toward improving patient outcomes is meaningful patient engagement.”

Kura Care’s CEO and Chairman, KJ Yang, PhD, stated, “These patients represent some of the most clinically complex and costly patients for any typical hospital.” Yang continued, “Kura Care’s approach to leveraging AI in different chronic care modules is truly unique. We are excited to bring this approach to hospitals, clinics, and other patient monitoring companies to significantly improve and enhance patient engagement, thereby driving improved clinical outcomes.”

The study was conducted at UC San Diego Health.

“Managing cardiac rehab patients outside of the hospital environment is important to their ongoing recovery,” said Pam Taub, MD, lead investigator, cardiologist, and Director of Step Family Foundation Cardiovascular Rehabilitation and Wellness Center at UC San Diego Health. “The study findings could help in providing improvements in how patients are monitored for key health indicators amongst a high acuity patient population.”
