The Feihe BCH Pediatric Brain Development Research Initiative Symposium Commences, Leading Global Experts Discuss the Future of Brain Development

April 07 18:58 2025

On April 4, Eastern Daylight Time, the Feihe BCH Pediatric Brain Development Research Initiative Symposium was held in Boston, the United States. The symposium brought together top experts and scholars from various fields, including neurology, nutrition, pathology, imaging, and pediatrics, to discuss the latest scientific research achievements of the initiative and the future directions in brain development and brain nutrition research. Representatives from the Feihe BCH Pediatric Brain Development Research Initiative, including Gary Fleisher, and Feihe Chairman Leng Youbin, attended the conference.

The Initiative Representative Gary Fleisher stated, “The symposium marks an important milestone for the BCH-Feihe pediatric brain development research initiative. This initiative stands at the intersection of science, medicine and child health and reflects our deep commitment to pushing the back the boundaries of pediatric research in the service of children and families everywhere.”

In his speech, Feihe Chairman Leng Youbin stated: ” The collaboration between Feihe and Harvard has spanned over a decade. Collaborating with Harvard Boston Children’s Hospital has further expanded Feihe’s depth in the field of brain development research.”

Since its establishment in 2023, Feihe Pediatric Brain Development Research Initiative at Boston Children’s Hospital, a Harvard Medical School Teaching hospital has been actively exploring the impact of genetics, nutrition, and the environment on infant brain development and cognition. Through the creation of an open platform, it has brought together outstanding teams. Currently, the Feihe BCH Pediatric Brain Development Research Initiative has attracted several top experts and scholars from Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital. At this symposium, distinguished award-winning experts from the Feihe BCH Pediatric Brain Development Research Initiative, including Dr. Brian Kalish, Dr. Caitlin Rollins, Dr. He Zhigang, Dr. Hisashi Umemori, Dr. Jonathan Lipton, Dr. Maria Lehtinen, and Dr. Takao Hensch, gathered to focus on cutting-edge areas such as fetal in-utero neurodevelopment, cerebrospinal fluid repair, and nerve regeneration, sharing the latest research findings and groundbreaking progress.

Professor Brian Kalish delivered a keynote address on mother’s microbiome during pregnancy and fetal neuro development. He specifically pointed out, “Neural development is a deeply important field and great need for support. And I think Feihe’s investment will really accelerate that innovation bringing very fundamental science to ultimately in a much more rapid pace towards what will impact the health of babies and children.”

During the symposium, Professor Takao Hensch stated, “So the research supported by Feihe can help us to understand at which times we need certain kinds of nutrition to affect certain kinds of brain function. And we look forward to figuring out the proper timing for the proper nutrition.”

It is reported that Harvard Boston Children’s Hospital is the largest children’s hospital in the United States and has consistently ranked as the “Best Children’s Hospital in the U.S.” Meanwhile, Feihe has achieved the top global sales of infant formula for four consecutive years. Regarding this, Gary Fleisher stated: “Mister Leng and Feihe has catalyzed the program with the potential to transform how we approach brain development, nutrition, and neuro developmental disorders in children.”

In terms of R&D innovation, Feihe has always adhered to a long-term perspective, undertaking strategic planning and investment for the future.

Back in 2014, Feihe partnered with Harvard Medical School’s BIDMC Medical Center to establish the BIDMC Nutrition Lab, focusing on research into the nutritional needs of both infants and adults. In 2023, the Feihe BCH Pediatric Brain Development Research Initiative was established, signaling the expansion of Feihe’s collaboration with Harvard Boston Children’s Hospital from nutrition research into more advanced and cutting-edge brain science research.

While deepening its scientific collaboration with Harvard BCH, Feihe is actively gathering top-tier research resources and innovative capabilities from around the world, creating a global “research network” of top scientists.

The vision of Feihe is to convey love through nutrition, making humanity wiser, healthier, and longer-lived. What the Initiative aims to do in the future is to connect these important forces, promote international exchanges and multi-party cooperation, and collectively create more breakthrough scientific research achievements to contribute to the advancement of human potential and the pursuit of health and longevity.
